Wirral’s Museums and Galleries
Wirral is home to an array of museums and galleries that offer the chance to learn more about the borough’s rich culture and history.
Port Sunlight Museum and Garden Village tells the story of the chocolate box village designed by William Hesketh Lever for staff at his Sunlight Soap factory while Birkenhead Priory and St Mary’s Tower is the oldest building in Merseyside.
Art lovers can enjoy independent galleries such as Oakland Gallery in New Brighton and Tate Aisle Gallery, a community gallery full of work from local artists based in Birkenhead Market.
Williamson Art Gallery and Museum houses Wirral’s collection of artworks, ceramics, sculptures and maritime history and has been welcoming visitors to its Birkenhead location since 1928.
In Port Sunlight meanwhile you’ll find Lady Lever Art Gallery, home of one of the UK’s finest collections of fine and decorative art, built to allow William Lever to showcase his personal collection to the public.
