Festival

The River Festival is back on Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd June! This maritime event will cover Pier Head, Royal Albert Dock Liverpool, Salthouse Dock, the paved area of The Strand and Mann Island with a whole raft of free family friendly activities. A free celebration of music, art, food and more on Liverpool’s iconic Waterfront.

When the ships come sailing in, the city will present a packed program of maritime entertainment inspired by Liverpool’s history as an iconic Port with historic and contemporary trading routes. The festival will celebrate the Port of Liverpool as an arrival and departure base for world class culture, music, food, wine and art.

Highlights you can expect to see over the weekend:

Gaia - a huge 23ft replica of the Earth will be open to the public from Saturday 25th May at Liverpool Cathedral, a week before the free festival takes place.

Sea Urchins will head to the waterfront in the form of hand-crocheted works of art make of fishing nets and measuring more than three meters high and nearly six meters wide!
Mann Island will be taking over by ‘Shipwreck: Receivers of the Wreck’ which will see a lone, broken ship acts a stage for a highly physical show featuring performances, aerial circus, dance and soundscapes to tell the tales of sailors, survivors, wreckers and rescuers.

The golden age of Hollywood will take over the waterfront thanks to a new On the Town - a brand new dance commission by House of Suarez.

The main stage of the Pier Head will celebrate Liverpool’s longstanding relationship with New York - with live music performances from Disco Inferno and Motown Gold.

The award-winning Bordeaux Wine Festival Liverpool makes its return on 31st May - 2nd June.

Royal Albert Dock Liverpool will be home to three Ship Stages dedicated to showcasing Indian, African and Irish live music and performances.
