Later this summer (Wed 17-Sat 20 June) WKMTC returns to the Floral Pavilion, New Brighton with a brand new staging of Chess: the hugely popular 1980s musical set in and around the World Chess Championships in Merano and Bangkok at the height of the Cold War and boasting music by Benny Andersson & Bjorn Ulvaeus of ABBA fame and lyrics from the great Tim Rice.
From Italy to Thailand, the players, lovers, politicians, CIA and KGB make their moves, mirroring the heightened passions of the political struggles that threaten to destroy lives and loves in this story of passion, betrayal, politics and a board game. And all set to the beating pulse of a breathtakingly lush, compelling rock score which includes such great songs as: Nobody's Side, Pity The Child, Anthem, the international chart hit: One Night In Bangkok and the show-stopping: I Know Him So Well.
