Wirral Watersports Centre

Wirral Sailing Centre is based at West Kirby Marine Lake and offers a full range of water sport activities, with courses available for all ages and levels of experience.
The ideal place to indulge your adventurous side, this 52 acre lake is totally enclosed and mainly non-tidal, making it an exceptionally safe facility and a perfect environment for learning.
Our friendly instructors are fully qualified to teach according to the methods set down by the Royal Yachting Association and British Canoe Union.

Tasters – available for sailing, windsurfing, kayaking, stand up paddle boarding and power boating.

This 3 hour “have a go” session will give you the opportunity to see what sailing, windsurfing or kayaking is all about and in a safe, fun environment. (NB Power boat and stand up paddle board tasters are 2 hours in length.)

RYA Courses – sailing, windsurfing and powerboating; BCU courses - kayaking

We offer a great range of two day courses for both adults and juniors.
Beginner’s courses cover basic skills and provide the perfect introduction to all the above sports. These are our most popular courses and run regularly throughout the season.

Intermediate courses are designed for those who have mastered the basics and who want to further their skills and knowledge e.g. Day Sailing (dinghy cruising on the Dee Estuary.)

2 Day Courses - Adult: £135.00
2 Day Courses - Junior: £95.00 

2 Day Powerboating Course: £200.00

5 day courses are also available for any of the above programmes. A great way for children to spend the summer holidays!

Clubs

We operate several clubs:

Adult Open Night – Monday evenings (Windsurfing/Sailing)

Junior Kayaking – Tuesday afternoons (after school)
Junior Windsurfing – Wednesday afternoons (after school)
Junior Sailing – Friday afternoons (after school)

A minimum standard of sailing is required. Please contact the Sailing Centre for more detail.

Children’s parties

Tired of the same old children’s parties? Why not try something different and celebrate your child’s birthday with a watersports party!
Included are two hours of your chosen activity, fully supervised and under safe instruction, and use of a private room for an hour to provide refreshments for your guests.

Groups

Ideal for Schools, Scouts and Guides, Youth Groups or just fun with friends. A competitive block booking rate is available – please phone for details.

Hilbre Explorer Boat Trips

A two hour voyage of discovery on the Dee Estuary, with the opportunity to see Hilbre Island from a different perspective. The trips operate on our seaworthy 6.3 metre RIB (powerboat). Although not guaranteed, you are likely to see Atlantic Grey Seals, which are inquisitive and often pop up to swim around the boat! All the above activities operate to a strict set of safety guidelines.
The Centre provides all of the specialist equipment required for your course, including wetsuits and buoyancy aids. All you need to bring is suitable swimwear to wear under a wetsuit, a pair of old trainers to wear when on the water and your shower stuff. Sun cream is also recommended.

Ladies who Launch

This is a relaxed and sociable session for ladies who would like to sail & windsurf. We have a mix of experience & beginners are welcome.

During the holidays the session runs 5.00-7.30 pm on Wednesdays; during term time it’s 10.00-12.30 on Wednesdays.

£18 per session and anyone wishing to join should contact the centre in advance (0151 625 3292.)
