Visiting Wirral for Monty the Mersey Monster?

If you're heading to New Brighton on Friday 1 November or Saturday 2 November to see Monty, you might have some questions! We've tried to clear everything up with our frequently asked questions below.

Are there any toilet facilities?

Public toilets are available at the Floral Pavilion, across the road from the Marine Lake.

Where can I park?

There is limited free parking around New Brighton. We would encourage you to use public transport wherever possible to make this event as sustainable as possible and minimise disruption on the roads.

Disabled parking is available at Fort Perch Rock car park and will be on a first come, first served basis. If you require a disabled parking space, we advise arriving early.

How can I get to the Marine Lake by public transport?

New Brighton is well connected by bus and train. New Brighton train station is approximately a 10-minute walk to the Marine Lake. Visit the Merseytravel Journey Planner to plan your journey.

Will the weather affect this event?

We’ll be monitoring the weather to make sure that we can put the event on safely for those attending and our performers and staff. We may have to make changes to the advertised times and activities or cancel the event, if the weather conditions are particularly wet or windy. Any changes will be advertised with as much notice as possible on Wirral Council social media channels: X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, Facebook.

Where's the best place to watch?

You’ll be able to view the show around Marine Lake. The footpath closest to the beach will be closed to the public.

Will there be any road closures in place?

We will not be putting any formal road closures in place. However, we will be operating a dynamic road closure system which will allow us to temporarily close parts of Marine Promenade to ensure everyone’s safety.

Accessibility

There will be good visibility of the performance from all areas around Marine Lake. Please be aware that there will be sudden loud noises and some flashes.

Will food and drink be available?

New Brighton is home to a fantastic selection of independent bars, cafes and restaurants. You’ll find many of these on Victoria Road and Victoria Parade.

What should I wear?

It can get chilly by the water, especially on a November evening, so we’d recommend wrapping up warm for this event!

Can I bring my dog?

As we are expecting large crowds and the performance may involve sudden loud noises, we would advise leaving dogs at home.

How is this event being paid for?

Monty the Mersey Monster is the closing event for Wirral Borough of Culture 2024. As part of Wirral Borough of Culture 2024, this event is funded by Liverpool City Region Combined Authority as part of the 1% for Culture initiative which commits at least 1% of the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority’s annual gainshare funding (£300k) to cultural projects and activities.
