L-R - Mayor of Wirral, Cllr Pat Hackett & Professor Robert Lee: Wirral Tourism Ambassador

Winners of the 2017 Tourism Awards announced
• Lady Lever Art Gallery voted top attraction
• Over 250 industry leaders attended

Wirral’s tourism stars celebrated another landmark year for the borough last night at the sector’s annual awards ceremony.

More than 250 tourism professionals, including those from the Wirral Tourism Business Network (WTBN), gathered at New Brighton’s Floral Pavilion Theatre and Conference Centre for the prestigious Wirral Tourism Awards.

Now in its 11th year, the Awards reflect the very best of Wirral’s tourism sector, recognizing the quality, achievements and continuous hard work of the individuals and teams behind the success.

Among the big winners at this year’s event were the Lady Lever Art Gallery, which won the Attraction of the Year Award, Mere Brook House, which won the Bed and Breakfast venue of the year, while the Fabulous Frost Fair, held last November in Birkenhead, was chosen as the Event of the Year.

Also victorious was Benty Farm Tearooms in Thurstaston which collected The People’s Choice Award, a special category judged on nominations from the public, including customers and visitors.

The prestige award of Tourism Ambassador of the Year was presented to Professor Robert Lee MBE, Chairman of the Friends of Birkenhead Park by the Mayor of Wirral, Councillor Pat Hackett.

The Wirral Tourism Ambassador is someone who has shown dedication and commitment to service excellence in the tourism, leisure and hospitality industry over a period of several years. They will have gained industry respect locally and perhaps further afield.

The Mayor of Wirral Councillor Pat Hackett said: “The awards ceremony was a great celebration of everything the Wirral has to offer to visitors.

“I would like to congratulate all of the businesses and staff who were nominated this year. Just being nominated shows how highly they are valued by their customers.”
