River of Light New Brighton Wirral

• Afternoon of fun in run up to fireworks spectacular
• Pop-up stalls to add to the huge food and drink offering
• Fireworks to launch to music along the promenade

New Brighton is gearing up to welcome thousands of visitors for the spectacular River of Light celebrations this Sunday.

The Bonfire Night fun starts at 4pm, when the mesmerising Lightwalkers will make their way from the Floral Pavilion towards Marine Point in a beautiful swirl of multi-coloured costume and light.

Visitors will also be entertained by the magical Wonderland Birds, who will be found roaming the promenade from 4.30pm. The giant illuminated birds and their Snow Queen are sure to keep children and families entertained as they make their way through the crowds.

The Bring the Fire Project will provide fiery fun to a rousing soundtrack by the Liver Drummers with two performances outside the Floral Pavilion at 4.30pm and 5.30pm.

Also from 4pm, the unmissable marshmallow-pink Birdie VW Camper Van photo booth will be parked at outside the Lacy’s building to allow people to hop-on and grab a free memento of the occasion.

Striking neon and glitter face painting is available at The Light Cinema, Marine Point, from 4pm – 6.30pm (£3 charge applies).

At 6.30pm the fireworks by Titanium Fireworks - the company behind London’s New Year’s Eve celebrations, Edinburgh’s Hogmanay and displays at the London Olympics and Paralympics - are scheduled to be launched from Fort Perch Rock. The display will be complimented by a specially commissioned soundtrack, which will be broadcast to the crowd from key points along the promenade and will include a mix of up-to-date chart hits with a little nod to the Mersey Sound.

As well as the usual huge choice of food and drink available in New Brighton, pop-up stalls, including New Brighton favourites Cabovino Wine Bar & Tapas and Blackberry Grove, will be catering for the crowds at Fort Perch Rock car park.

Shopmobility, operated by the charity WIRED, will be open to hire mobility aids from 1pm – 7.30pm. People who find it difficult to visit their office in Marine Park, New Brighton, (opposite Morrisons), can call 07729 334 445 to arrange an alternative collection point. The area around two of the shelters overlooking the Marine Lake will also be reserved to provide a viewing area for wheelchair users and people with a disability.

Wirral Council’s cabinet member for Delivering Differently, Cllr Christine Spriggs, said: “With so much to see and do in the run up to the fireworks, I urge people to beat the traffic and head to New Brighton early using public transport to really soak up the fantastic Bonfire Night atmosphere.”
