A NEW volunteer-run Visitor Information Point has opened in New Brighton to provide advice and information on the resort’s attractions. The new kiosk is having a low-key ‘soft’ launch off-season so that organisers can assess demand before hopefully extending hours in the summer.
Led by New Brighton Coastal Community Team, the information point will be open every weekend between 10am and 2pm.
Based at the rear of the bowling pavilion in Marine Park, (opposite Morrisons), the council-supported project will be run and staffed by volunteers from New Brighton Community Partnership. The volunteers run Heritage and Information Centre at St James’ Church, (which will remain open).
As well as information on local attractions, activities and events, it will promote the work of local artists, photographers and crafters, with advice on where their work can be bought.
Cllr Tony Jones, Wirral’s Pledge Champion for building a vibrant tourism economy, and Chair of New Brighton Coastal Community Team said: ‘New Brighton Heritage Centre has been doing an excellent job offering visitors advice, and this new facility will be an added bonus for visitors as we attract more and more people to the resort.’
Shirley Ashton, Volunteer Co-ordinator at New Brighton Community Partnership, said: ‘Operating off-season will give us an opportunity to assess demand. We’re looking forward to seeing how our new venture goes.’
