The Williamson Art Gallery celebrate forty years since the making of Alan Parker’s film BUGSY MALONE with a photographic touring exhibition from BAFTA.
BUGSY MALONE – THE FRIENDLY GALA WILL BE HELD ON FRIDAY THE 10TH OF FEBRUARY AT 7PM, FULL OF MUSIC, DANCE AND GOOD COMPANY.
Step in and step out for one night only at the Williamson Art Gallery with the Speakeasy Bootleg Band, the vocal quartet The Night and Days and more, with catering and a welcome drink included in the ticket price and a pay bar available. Arrive at 7pm to take a charleston lesson with Mersey Swing or relax and look at all the exhibitions on show until it is showtime.

The Williamson Art Gallery are delighted to be hosting BAFTA’s touring exhibition of photographic images by David Appelby of behind the scenes during the making of the classic film BUGSY MALONE from the 18th of January to the 25th of February. The Williamson and Priory Friends “Gala gals” team are building on the success of their gala for Dr Andy Gotts in 2014 for the BAFTA Behind the Mask exhibition and have invited back the Speakeasys, The Night and Days and MerseySwing. The evening will celebrate friendship and collaboration which is the underlying theme for the three exhibitions that will be the backdrops of the evening.

In Gallery One, the BAFTA exhibition which has come about through a thirty year friendship started in Edinburgh College of Art’s jewellery department and relationship that has developed between BAFTA and the Wirral Museums Service.
In Gallery Two, the exhibition “Tinted Steam and Liquid Light” -a collaboration between The Atkinson in Southport and the Williamson showcasing their fabulous watercolours collections,
and finally in Gallery Three, there will be an exhibition which will bring together 5 five organisations who have been working with Mencap.
The 1920s theme of the movie will suit the surroundings as the Williamson Art Gallery and Museum was built in 1928 with lovely plaster details throughout the building so dress up 1920s style or whatever makes you happy and comfortable.
Flappers, gangsters and dapper gents all welcome but leave your splatterguns at the door.
The night will end around 10pm.
