• Nominations now open for Wirral Tourism Awards
• This is the 10th year the awards have been held
• Ceremony celebrates excellence in this important business sector

Nominations are now open for the annual Wirral Tourism Awards, which celebrate all that is great about the borough’s visitor attractions.

This year will be the 10th Wirral Tourism Awards and as ever they will recognise and reward the outstanding contributions made by local individuals, groups and businesses in this important and growing business sector.

Collectively, they contribute to a tourism economy that is now worth more than £355 million a year in Wirral and supports 4,800 full-time jobs.

This year’s awards culminate with a glittering gala dinner at The Floral Pavilion in New Brighton on Wednesday 13 April 2016 and it is anticipated that this year’s event will be extra special because it is the 10th anniversary of the awards.

Cllr Pat Hackett, Wirral Council Cabinet member for Business and Tourism, said: “Tourism is a key economic driver behind the Wirral Plan for 2020. It is something we do very well in Wirral, and we are rightly proud of our record and what we have to offer - having a successful and vibrant visitor economy remains a major priority for the council.

“The Tourism Awards are a way of celebrating those individuals, groups and businesses who have stood out over the last 12 months and made an exceptional contribution to the sector. We believe they deserve recognition and they certainly deserve our thanks for all that they do to make Wirral such an attractive place for visitors.”

Members of the public are able to nominate their favourites in the following award categories:-

•             Outstanding Young Person
•             Bar of the Year
•             Outstanding Customer Care
•             Bed & Breakfast of the Year
•             Volunteer Team of the Year
•             Hotel of the Year
•             Taste Wirral
•             Attraction of the Year
•             Event of the Year
•             Independent Business of the Year
•             Sustainable Tourism Award

The deadline for nominations is Tuesday 1st March. After that, a panel of judges will review entries and draw up a shortlist, which will usually be no more than three. Those shortlisted will be visited by an independent expert category judge who will choose the winner.

There are two further awards presented on the night; Young Chef of the Year, which is awarded by Wirral Metropolitan College and Wirral Tourism Ambassador, who is identified by Wirral Council in recognition of an outstanding contribution to tourism in Wirral by an individual, team or business.

The Wirral Tourism Ambassador is someone who has shown dedication and commitment to service excellence in the tourism, leisure and hospitality industry over a period of several years. They will have gained industry respect locally and perhaps further afield.
