New Brighton's popular summer shuttle bus is back!

New Brighton summer shuttle bus launch

New Brighton's popular free open-topped shuttle bus is back for the summer from this Saturday! And for the first time ever, it will take day trippers through the busy Victoria Road area of the town, taking in Victoria Parade, New Brighton train station and Marine Point.

Beginning at the RNLI station at Harrison Drive, a free shuttle bus will carry visitors along New Brighton Promenade to the attractions at Marine Point and, for the first time this year, will continue on to Victoria Parade, Victoria Road and then to New Brighton train station.

Where safe to do so, the bus will operate as a ‘hail and ride’ service for people to flag down as it passes.

The shuttle bus is being funded by a partnership between Victoria Road Traders’ Association, the Resort Group, the Trader’s Association for Marine Promenade and visitnewbrighton.com and will run from Saturday 25th July to Sunday 20th September. The shuttle bus is operated by Stagecoach.

It will operate every half hour from 11:36am on Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays with the final bus leaving Harrison Drive at 17:06 each day.

The initiative is one part of a coordinated programme of activity led by Wallasey Constituency Team with other council services, local businesses, Promenade Estates and voluntary group The New Brighteners, to ensure that visitors and local residents can enjoy the resort at its best.

This includes an enhanced cleansing schedule, additional bulk bins and barbecue deposit bins at key locations and the Constituency Committee-funded installation of bag dispensers for litter and dog waste.

Carole Bowie from Victoria Road Traders’ Association said: “This is a big opportunity for businesses in Victoria Road to showcase ourselves. There is a really interesting and diverse mix of businesses on Victoria Road including pavement cafes, tapas bars and independent retailers from dancewear to grocers to gifts. There is a real buzz around the road and we hope the new bus service will introduce more people to the area. We’re really glad to be able to support the extension of this year’s shuttle bus all the way up to Victoria Road.”

Tony Hurst from the Resort traders group said: "We are pleased to co-fund the shuttle bus, which will link together the traditional New Brighton leisure strip with Victoria Road and the development at Marine Point, showing the

‘new’ New Brighton at its best.”

Cllr Pat Hackett, Cabinet Member for Economy said: “The shuttle bus is always extremely popular, and I’m pleased to see our local businesses getting involved and backing the New Brighton brand during the busiest time of the year. This helps us to boost tourism and the local economy.”

Cllr Rob Gregson, Chair of Wallasey Constituency Committee said: “The Constituency Committee is involved with ensuring that New Brighton remains an attractive place to visit, even with the huge influx of visitors which makes it necessary to have the infrastructure in place to deal with extra refuse and waste.”

Jamie Reid, operations manager at Stagecoach Merseyside and South Lancashire, said: “The New Brighton shuttle bus is a great, free summer service that we always look forward to running. This is the third year we’ve operated the open top bus and find it's popular with visitors of all ages.  It's great that we can help people get the most out of their trip to New Brighton and give a boost to local businesses.
