Launch of free shuttle bus heralds start of new summer season in New Brighton!

5th June 2014

Categories: News

The launch of New Brighton’s free shuttle bus signals the start of what promises to be another bumper summer season at New Brighton this year.

The free open-top bus will operate throughout the Summer from Saturday, June 7, to carry visitors to New Brighton to its busy tourist attractions.

The free bus will operate from 11.40am to 5.20pm every Saturday, Sunday, and Bank Holiday, until early September. The bus will operate a circular route,  approximately every 20 minutes from the lifeguard station at Harrison Drive to the Floral Pavilion Theatre, New Brighton, with designated drop off points at key sites including Bubbles World of Play. Passengers can, however, flag the bus down at any point along the route.

The aim of the service is to cut down on parking congestion in the centre of New Brighton, (motorists are advised to park by the Dips to use the service).

Along with the bus, a number of other contingencies are in place to make sure visitors to New Brighton enjoy the resort at its best. This includes an enhanced cleansing schedule, additional bulk waste bins and barbecue disposal bins at key locations, and new measures to ensure that all cafes with outdoor seating clean up food waste on pavements. The Council has also provided a new double bin at the pirate ship ‘Black Pearl’ to accommodate increased visitors to the artwork on the beach near the Tower Grounds.

Summer 2014 will also feature a number of new initiatives under the ‘Love Wirral’* banner, such as litter picks and beach clean-ups.

To discourage dog owners from not cleaning up after their pets, the Council’s dog fouling team will be joined by Police Community Support Officers this year, and Fixed Penalty Notices will be issued to dog owners who fail to clear up after their pets.

An extended street cleansing schedule will be in place throughout the season, with bulk waste bins and barbecue bins located at 10 sites including the Dips, Perch Rock access road, Perch Rock Car Park and Marine Promenade.

Last year was New Brighton’s first full season since the redevelopment of Marine Point. The next phase of New Brighton’s regeneration will be work later this year to open up access to Victoria Road from the promenade end, encouraging more people to visit bars, restaurants and businesses in the Victoria Road area.

The bus has been wholly funded by the Department of Transport through Merseyside’s Local Sustainable Transport Fund and will be operated by Stagecoach.
