Visit Wirral

Wirral Council’s ‘Visit Wirral’ website has been refreshed and revamped in time for the Open in July, making it easier to use and accessible via tablet and smartphone.

The website, Wirral’s main site for tourist and visitor information, is now available on all platforms, and has a ‘translate’ facility so that it can be viewed in a number of different languages.

Features of the refreshed website include:
• Social media feed integration available for business listings
• Online booking portal for accommodation
• Updated look and feel, led by more visuals and a user friendly design

The site has been going from strength to strength, and already attracts more than 400,000 visitors annually (up 42 per cent since last year). It also attracts 17 million hits a year, a rise of 86 per cent since last year.

Views of the site by ‘iphone’ are up 112 per cent and by android, 158 per cent. The site’s Twitter feed is also up 87 per cent since last year, with around 4,800 followers.

The Destination Marketing Team at Wirral Council has been working to improve the website further and increase traffic through search engine optimisation and email, resulting in an increase of 57 per cent visitors over a four month period.

The news is particularly welcome because the forthcoming Open will be geared up for WiFi access, enabling visitors to access the website around the course.

The site has also enjoyed a 212 per cent increase in the number of people entering its ‘Win a weekend in Wirral’ competition within the first three months it went live, (generated by the optimisation of the website), and a 106 per cent increase in people visiting the site’s new page about the Open.
