Waiting for a trim at Gallaghers is no longer a chore because the barbers is also a fully licenced pub.

The unique business in Birkenhead, Merseyside is sure to leave customers at least 'Half-Cut' when drinkers pop in for a pint.

One end of the room is dedicated to pulling pints, while the opposite end is full of razors, scissors, and shaving cream.

Owner Suzanne Gallagher, 52, said: "New customers to the barbers never mind queuing."

Suzanne and husband Frank, 54, are both barbers by trade and take turns in cutting hair and working behind the bar.

After years spent looking for the perfect location for their barber shop, the pair stumbled across this pub built in 1828.

Business woman Suzanne said: "We loved it as soon as we walked inside and although it had been lying empty for two years and was in a terrible state of disrepair.

"We could see that a barber shop would fit."

After four months of renovations, Suzanne and Frank opened Gallaghers Pub and Barbers to the public and it soon became a popular spot.

Suzanne said: "At first we thought the bar would just be a novelty and a bit of a bonus if people actually started using it as a pub.

"But, after seeing how popular the bar was becoming, Frank was determined to make it the best he could.

"He concentrated on getting in real ale and using local micro-breweries, and it wasn't long before we were bringing in a loyal following.

"Customers at the pub do tend to use the barbers, and some even wait at the bar and end up letting other customers go in front!

"You can imagine them going home to their wives half cut and telling them there was a big queue, which always makes us laugh."

Gallaghers Pub and Barbers opened in June of 2010 and features a military themed interior, due to Frank's service with the Irish Guards.

"When we first opened the Gallaghers Pub and Barbers there was a lot of scepticism from locals, especially other pubs, " said Suzanne.

"But now everyone loves it and it's a big part of the community."

Gallagher's has been named CAMRA's Wirral Pub of the Year three times and Merseyside Pub of the Year in 2012/13.
