Merseyside restaurants are celebrating after being singled out for top national awards.

The Clove Hitch on Hope Street, Liverpool, and Nova in Heswall, Wirral, have been praised in the new edition of the Waitrose Good Food Guide as well as Fraiche in Oxton, Wirral, being listed in the book’s prestigious Top 50 Restaurants list.

The Clove Hitch and Nova are both listed in the guide for the first time. Both are relative newcomers to the Merseyside food scene – opening in 2010 and 2011 retrospectively.

Multi-award winning Fraiche in Oxton is celebrating being named 23rd in the guide’s top eateries in the country.

The Good Food Guide is the UK’s longest running, best selling restaurant guide. In its 63rd year of publication the guide is now owned by Waitrose and includes independent reviews of the best dining establishments throughout the UK.

The guide has praised the standard of dining in the region.

Rochelle Venables, managing editor of the Waitrose Good Food Guide, said: “The restaurant scene in Merseyside is flourishing and we’re excited to see such innovative and modern cooking in the area. Particular acknowledgement goes to Delifonseca on Liverpool’s dockside, who this year were named the national winner of our Readers’ Restaurant of the Year awards. Praise too to Marc Wilkinson of Fraiche in Oxton, who has climbed two spots in our Top 50 to number 23.

“Congratulations are due to all of this year’s entries in Merseyside who have set such a high standard for cooking in the north west of the country.”

The Waitrose Good Food Guide 2014 is out on September 9.
