Throughout May, the Walking Festival includes more than 100 exciting and varied walks in the parks, open countryside, coast and heritage sites in Wirral. You can choose from walks themed by History & Heritage, Food & Drink, Habitats & Wildlife and Health Walks.

Highlights of the Walking Festival will be the Annual Wirral Coastal Walk organised by Wirral Rotary, The Secret Gardens of Oxton and Oxton Village Walks organised by the Oxton Society and walks around Ness Gardens.

National Walking Month

Wirral Walking Festival also ties in with National Walking Month which is organised by 'Living Streets', a national charity which works with pedestrians to create safe, attractive, enjoyable streets where it’s great to walk.

National Walking Month includes weeks of action and individual challenges to get you on your feet.

  • From May 1st, the Better Shape feat challenges you to get up and go for a walk at lunch time. Share your success by uploading a picture of 'the chair you left behind' - your empty chair (or car seat, or bike saddle, or favourite stool at your local cafe...). Tips on how to take a good photo are also included on the website!
  • From May 6th, share the hidden treasures you find on your walking routes through your local neighbourhoods. The top new discoveries will be crowned one of the seven wonders of National Walking Month.
  • From May 13th, challenge colleagues to walk to work. Walk together to burn calories and get fitter. Blow away the cobwebs and relieve stress - or introduce an element of competition by seeing who can walk the most miles.
  • From May 20th, walk the kids to school and enjoy spending some quality time as a family. Complete the Family Time feat by going on a family 'I Spy' walk.
  • End the month from May 27th, with the Clearer Head feat. Share a picture of you with the best idea you have ever had while out on a walk
