The owner of a Wirral based hotel is overjoyed that her country house hotel has been featured again in the Great Britain & Ireland Michelin Guide for 2014.

This is the second consecutive year that Lorna Tyson of the Mere Brook House in Thornton Hough, Wirral has made the listings in this prestigious publication. What makes this such an achievement is that you cannot apply to be featured, it is by invitation only and scrutinized by an anonymous Michelin inspector and mystery guests.

Rebecca Burr, Editor of the Great Britain & Ireland Michelin Guide for 2014, said "We have never produced a GB & Ireland guide that provides our readers with such diversity and variety. Fantastic B&Bs, wonderful pubs, stylish hotels, world class restaurants and great value eateries – we have them all in our guide."

Mere Brook House is an Edwardian country house offering high class bed and breakfast with facilities for events such as celebrations and business meetings on the Wirral, and is Merseyside's first 5 star gold guesthouse highlighted in the 2014 Michelin Great Britain and Ireland Guide for the second year in a row, which features 3,800 accommodation providers.

Mere Brook House owner, Lorna Tyson, was delighted with the news, “It is a great honour for Mere Brook to be featured for consecutive years, it is something we have worked hard for in making it more than just a place where guests stay, eat, rest and then leave. We want our guests to remember the uniqueness and warmth of our country house, the friendliness of our staff and the high quality of our home made cooking – we want them to experience a home from home.”

Paula Basnett, Chief Executive of Wirral Business Partnership was delighted that Mere Brook House, one of its members, has been recognised nationally for its exemplary quality, “It is a great compliment that for two consecutive years Mere Brook House has been featured in the Michelin Guide, this highlights not only the hard work which Lorna and her team has continued to build on year by year, but also the warmth and hospitality which visitors have received at one of Wirral’s most welcoming hotels.”

Situated in its own grounds of almost four acres, Mere Brook House has a beautiful garden with sunken dell, its own apiary, paddocks and a woodland area running down to the Mere Brook. Recent renovations have taken place to the house by a team of dedicated craft and trades people in updating its facilities whilst retaining and enhancing its traditional features.

This guesthouse is not only the proud winner of the 'Wirral Taste Award' 2013 but was successful as Guest Accommodation of the Year 2012 at The Merseyside Tourism Awards 2012, The Wirral Tourism Awards 2012, and finalist in the Visitor Economy category at the Wirral Business Awards 2013.
