Store manager at Caffe Cream, Shane Osborne talks about the 'Cream of New Brighton'
"My core responsibilities are in managing Team Cream (a team of 20) and ensuring that they are engaged, motivated and happy in what they're doing. I love interacting with people so I always try to take the opportunity to talk with our team and our customers. We see ourselves as creating their “ice cream dreams”, and our reputation for excellence has even attracted a few celebrity visitors.
People often tell me that I have the best job in the world running an ice cream parlour, but the truth is...it's even better than that! Much of my day is spent making our gourmet ice cream in our amazing ice cream laboratory. When the mood takes me I'll get our team together and we'll experiment and try to develop new flavours. Our most popular recent invention was 'Accidental Jaffa Cake' - we were trying to develop a Terry's Chocolate Orange recipe and accidentally made Jaffa Cake!
With Christmas on the horizon we're launching our new range of festive flavours: Baileys, Christmas Pudding, Hazelnut and Mince Pie!
It’s not all ice cream either, we also offer a great range of food, such as our rustic bacon buttie, our homemade soup, and our range of homemade sweets. We take great pride in working with local suppliers and local artisan bakers."
We’re always looking for ways we can improve our business. For example, senior management travel the world for the latest cutting edge technology and trends. What we do may seem a little niche, but I think everyone should step out of their comfort zone and apply for a rewarding job and not be afraid to take risks. It's a dynamic and creative young company and it's great to be a part of it - not knowing what I'll be doing from one day to the next makes it all the more enjoyable.”
