BBC Radio 4 Gardener's Question Time Summer Party at Ness

20th August 2012

Categories: News

10am - 6pm Saturday, 8th September 2012

Tickets are selling fast for the BBC Radio 4 Gardeners’ Question Time (GQT) annual Summer Party being hosted - for the first time ever in the North West - at Ness Gardens in South Wirral on Saturday 8th September 2012.

The GQT team look forward to their annual summer party as it gives them a rare opportunity to meet and mingle with the public. So if you are one of those keen home gardeners who fancy meeting some of your favourite gardening experts up close, this is your big chance!

This year’s bumper crop of celebrity TV and radio gardener presenters includes Eric Robson, Peter Gibbs, Bob Flowerdew, Pippa Greenwood, Bunny Guinness, Matthew Wilson, Matthew Biggs, Anne Swithinbank and Christine Walkden who will be in the Gardens to answer your questions and give out gardening advice. Apart from the two Radio 4 show recordings – to be broadcast later in September – BBC Radio Merseyside will also be recording the event as a separate programme. The experts will also deliver a series of gardening demonstrations as well as drop-in clinics for identifying your unnamed plants and give good advice on plant diseases.

The Ness team are set to offer a variety of demonstrations in various horticultural and gardening techniques and a range of tours to complement the day’s programme of events. We are excited to announce that BBC Masterchef 2010 winner Claire Lara will give the audience a taste of her culinary expertise in a couple of cookery demonstrations and a local ice cream retailer is creating special flavours just for us, both using ingredients selected fresh from the Gardens.

Pippa Probert of Outer Spaces who designed this year’s Silver Gilt winner at Tatton ‘A Taste of Ness’, to celebrate the Friends of Ness Gardens’ 50th anniversary, will be on hand to explain her inspiration and show you round its gorgeous larger sister garden ‘Making Waves’ based at the Gardens. Other activities include bee-keeping, looking after chickens, creative floristry, learning about the local bird and wildlife and having a go at botanical art. As always, our visitors can choose to take some quiet time to look around our sixty four acre Gardens - so there really is something for everyone.

Chris Beardshaw, one of the BBC Radio 4 team who cannot attend on the day but is a long time supporter of Ness Gardens, says of the event: ‘It is great to see Ness Botanic Gardens getting the recognition it deserves as one of our key botanic collections. The team behind the gardens are inspiring and proactive and the hugely supportive set of volunteers and friends is a testament to how loved and respected the gardens are. I hope the Summer Party is a huge hit for all concerned’.

Tickets priced at £6.50 (no concessions) may be purchased online, by phone and at the Visitor Centre desk at the Gardens. For more details please visit our brand new website at www.nessgardens.org.uk or call 0845 030 4063 (local rate charges apply).
