From Wirral News
The first Wirral Young Chef of the Year competition night for 2012 was taking place as the Wirral News went to press.
Adam Bowers, 25-year-old head chef at the Portrait House in Hoylake, kicked off the contest on Tuesday night.
Diners enjoyed a starter of scallops, samphire and pancetta, followed by pan-fried Gressingham duck breast with a ballotine of pork and wild duck pate wrapped in Parma ham, oven-roasted beetroot and shallots on a bed of pan- fried chicory and savoy cabbage.
His dessert was a trio of mini sweets: mini white chocolate and raspberry tart; Hennessey XO and dark chocolate tiffin and a milk chocolate and hazelnut brownie served with blackberry compote and vanilla pod ice cream.
Find out how the night went – and what our readers thought of Adam’s menu – in next week’s Wirral News.
Our second finalist will be revealed on Wednesday, October 24 and the second competition night will take place on Tuesday, November 6.
Wirral Young Chef of the Year is kindly supported by Wirral Met College, Liverpool Community College and Wirral council.
