Wirral Young Chef 2017

Wirral Young Chef of the Year is a showcase for the best young chefs in Wirral. During a six month period nominated chefs create a set menu using locally and regionally produced ingredients and hold a special evening in their restaurants.

The public are asked to attend and vote on the quality, presentation, originality and use of ingredients of the meal. The highest scoring chef is presented with the much-coveted Young Chef of the Year award at the annual Tourism Awards.

Wirral Metropolitan College together with Wirral Council have searched for ‘Wirral Young Chef of the Year 2017’. Nominations have been assessed by a panel of chef lecturers at the college.

Finalists aged between 16yrs & 25yrs who are ambitious and aspire to be great chefs have been selected from the nominations and will had the opportunity to showcase their skill, expertise and knowledge at a ‘Wirral Young Chef of the Year’ evening in their restaurant between January and March 2017.

The public are invited to book a table and score the meal on the night. The public vote represents 50% of the final score.

The finalists and restaurant evenings were as follows:

  • Tuesday 17th January, Jamie Macmahon @ The Oak Bar & Bistro, Greasby  
  • Tuesday 31st January, Marcin Sielski @ The Riviera, Port Sunlight (Leverhulme Hotel)
  • Tuesday 21st Feb, Robert Manger @ Milan, West Kirby 
  • Tuesday 7th March, Emily Milne @ Leasowe Castle, Leasowe - winner

On 4th April 2016 the Young Chef finalists took part in a cook-off, which is judged by two renowned chefs. This represents 50% of the final score and the highest scoring chef is given the title ‘Wirral Young Chef of the Year 2016’ at the Wirral Tourism Awards dinner on 13th April at the Floral Pavilion Theatre and Conference Centre.

The Winner of the Wirral Young Chef of the Year 2015 was:
