With Valentine's Day just around the corner, there are a number of ways to spoil your loved one without breaking the bank. Whether you’re a new couple, or just want to do something special, we’ve pulled together our top affordable dates in Wirral to help celebrate with your loved ones. They can be used anytime of the year, so be sure to note them down!

Have a picnic in the park

Wirral is full of glorious parks to relax and have a picnic in. Birkenhead Park was the first publicly funded park in the world and has influenced the design of urban parks across the globe – most notably New York’s Central Park! With a stunning boathouse, Swiss Bridge and an abundance of green space, it makes the perfect spot for a picnic on finer days. Or when it isn’t, have a bite to eat in Caffe Crème at the Visitor Centre after a walk through the lush surroundings.

If river views are more your cup of tea, Vale Park in New Brighton overlooks the River Mersey across to Liverpool. This Victorian Park even has a rose garden and a bandstand where you can re-enact the balcony scene from Romeo and Juliet. There are plenty of other sights, activities, cafes and restaurants in New Brighton to enjoy – check out our guide by clicking here.

Hop on a Ferry ‘Cross The Mersey

See the best views of the Liverpool and Wirral Waterfronts with the world-famous Mersey Ferry on a 50-minute River Explorer Cruise. Be sure to grab a bite to eat at Woodside Ferry Village and, for something different, check out life on board a real German U-boat at Woodside Terminal (entry is included in the River Explorer Cruise tickets).

Enjoy romantic views in West Kirby

Make a day out of it and walk out to Hilbre Island, a stunning and secluded island which can only be accessed at low tide. Perfect for getting away and escaping somewhere tranquil with your loved one, this is an experience not to be missed. After the walk, grab a bite to eat in town – bustling with restaurants, cafes and bars, West Kirby is definitely a destination for foodie couples.

Marine Lake, West Kirby offers the most romantic sunset views in Wirral. Overlooking the Dee Estuary, a clear night sees unbeatable sunsets which will make your hearts melt. If you’re thinking of popping the question, this is the place to do it!

Relax with coffee and cake

You can't beat a nice, relaxing coffee shop - and it's even better as a couple! Take time to unwind and enjoy a sweet treat together. Blooming Skull Coffee is a cosy little cafe only a short walk from Bebington Train Station which has a mouth-watering selection of cakes to choose from.

Go on a walk with your loved one

Admire world-class art together

If you’re looking for world-class art and culture then Wirral is definitely the right place to be! Williamson Art Gallery & Museum in Oxton houses one of the best art collections in the North West of England and is free to enter. Why not walk to Rose Mount in Oxton Village and explore the independent cafes, shops and restaurants afterwards?

Lady Lever Art Gallery is regarded as one of the finest art galleries in Europe and holds the world's best collection of Wedgwood jasperware. Located in Port Sunlight, this free art gallery is a gem in Wirral’s arts and culture scene. No trip is complete without enjoying the café and eclectic gift shop.

See a show or take a creative class together

West Kirby Arts Centre offers a whole host of classes in visual arts, photography, music, dance, drama and Yoga as well as regular music concerts at affordable prices. A charming seaside escape, West Kirby has a whole host of things to see and do – check out our guide by clicking here.

Explore the Wirral mermaid trail together

Following the New Brighton Mermaid Trail is a great way to see the town! The trail has five identical mermaid statues sculpted by a local artist and decorated by local school groups spread across New Brighton. Why not make a day of it and grab lunch in the town’s Victorian Quarter or at Marine Point along the way?

Take in stunning views at Birkenhead Priory and St Mary’s Tower

The oldest standing building on Merseyside, Birkenhead Priory encapsulates so much of the town's history. Founded in 1150, the monks of this Benedictine monastery looked after travellers for nearly 400 years and supervised the first regulated 'Ferry 'cross the Mersey'. Nowadays, you can explore the ancient building and St Mary’s Tower, which shares the site, and offers stunning views over the River Mersey.

Round off your visit at the nearby Glen Affric Brewery with a craft beer or if you’d prefer coffee and a bite to eat, Hamilton Square is only a short walk away and is home to Joro Vegan Eatery and Liberty Bell Coffee – both offering tasty food and high-quality coffee.
