American restaurant opens in New Brighton

2nd December 2011

The suitably named Brooklyn’s restaurant will debut at New Brighton’s £60m Marine Point complex.

Brooklyn’s is the first of what Keith Gurney, creator of the Tavern Co bar and grill, hopes will grow into a mainstream brand in the North West.

Mr Gurney hopes to build on the success of the popular Tavern Co bar and grill which he established in Liverpool’s Penny Lane, in 1990.

The 150-seater restaurant, occupying a 5,000 square foot unit of the waterfront complex in New Brighton, is scheduled to open on Friday December 2.

Brooklyn’s will offer a wide range of steaks, grills, seafood and salads, as well as a range of American-themed cocktails and soft drinks.

Mr Smith said: “I have been fortunate enough to manage some of the best venues in the region and I was looking for a new venture which would offer me a new challenge. I believe that Brooklyn’s will grow to become one the leading restaurants in Merseyside and I am delighted to be able to launch the venue at the brand new development at Marine Point.”

Mr Gurney said: “Neptune has revitalised New Brighton waterfront, transforming it into a first class leisure and retail attraction for all ages.  We are delighted that Richard has decided to launch our new restaurant which we hope will become a central part of the Marine Point development.”

Mr Smith added: “Brooklyn’s will target families and children during the day and an older market, especially couples and adult groups of friends, in the evening. We will have a special ‘kids eat free’ offer running throughout December, which will complement the new cinema complex and the neighbouring Floral Pavilion Theatre and Riverside Bowling Alley.”

Daniel Hynd, Neptune’s Property Director, said: “We are very pleased to welcome Brooklyn’s to our Marine Point development, further enhancing the retail and leisure mix on offer for people of all ages. It is an exciting brand and a perfect fit for Marine Point and wider New Brighton.

“Brooklyn’s will benefit from the trade already generated by the bowling alley and theatre, as well as the hugely anticipated cinema which is set to open at around the same time.

“The restaurant is a key part of the £40m second phase of the seafront scheme which also includes a new Morrisons store and a 66 bedroom Travelodge hotel. Both companies have reported successful starts at Marine Point.”
