Her Majesty The Queen, accompanied by His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh, will visit New Brighton on Thursday 1st December, 2011.
The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh will unveil a commemorative plaque at the Floral Pavilion and Conference Centre; the flagship project in New Brighton’s long awaited regeneration.
Her Majesty and His Royal Highness will enjoy a short performance in the theatre by students of St. Mary’s Catholic College in Wallasey, before meeting groups of guests in the Panoramic Lounge.
Leader of Wirral Council, Councillor Steve Foulkes said:
“It will be a real honour to welcome Her Majesty The Queen and His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh to the borough. We are extremely proud of the new Floral Pavilion and the Marine Point leisure and retail development, which has brought over 700 new jobs to the area.
“This will be a very special day for Wirral and I look forward to showcasing some of the achievements that have been made to regenerate the fantastic seaside town of New Brighton.”
Up to 90 guests, including local volunteers and ex-servicemen, will join The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh for lunch at the Floral Pavilion. Lunch will be prepared by a team of top chefs from around the country, led by Claire Lara, winner of Masterchef The Professionals 2010. Claire was born in Moreton and now lives in Childwall.
Claire explained:
“People who have supported me to become the chef that I am today, have taken holidays from work to cater for this very special event. As well as those who have influenced my career, the team includes a number of students from Liverpool Community College, who have demonstrated great potential during their training. This is a fantastic opportunity for them to showcase their culinary talents; it doesn’t get much bigger than this and we all feel very privileged to be involved.”
