Weeks remain for entry to the Wirral Golf Classic
1st July 2010
A week after Royal Liverpool Golf Club hosted the premier amateur stroke play event in the world keen golfers from across the region can now enter to play the famous course as part of the inaugural Wirral Golf Classic.
Entries into the Wirral Golf Classic are now open to members from local golf clubs as well as those from across the country and abroad.
Only weeks remain to enter the 72-hole Stableford competition for 300 amateurs, which takes place from September 13-17 and will see prizes worth more than £3,000 up for grabs.
The beautiful courses of Caldy, Heswall, Wallasey and the magnificent Royal Liverpool Golf Club, venue for the 2014 Open Championship, will host the five-day international event.
Competitors from Holland, France and Scotland have already signed up to test themselves on these challenging courses and now is the time for the region’s golfers to show our visiting competitors what the locals can do!
Helen Latham, Wirral Golf Classic Organiser said: “Wirral is without doubt a paradise for golfers. All entrants will be able to play these magnificent courses on the coast of our stunning peninsula for the amazing rate of £199 which is just over half the cost if you were booking these courses on your own. And to further enhance the event the hoteliers, restaurateurs and bars are lending their support with great offers on accommodation and eating out to further enhance the experience for competitors.”
All competitors will play each of the four courses with one day’s rest of their choice. The main competition is an aggregate Stableford with prizes for the top 20 players over four rounds but there will also be daily competitions.
Players must be over 18 years of age with a maximum handicap of 24 for men and 36 for ladies. The maximum number of strokes given is 18 for men and 27 for ladies.
All golfers must also be a member of a recognised club, or affiliated to their country’s governing body. They must present a current handicap certificate on arrival.
To enter the Wirral Golf Classic costs just £199 which includes all green fees and an invitation to a variety of social events. There is also a team competition for four players. Each player must enter individually but a team can be nominated at the time of entry. A welcome drink reception will be held at the host hotel, Thornton Hall Hotel in Thornton Hough on Monday 13 September and the prize giving & drinks reception will be held at Royal Liverpool Golf Club on Friday 17 September at 9.30pm.
Note: Members from the four participating clubs will receive a discounted entry fee to the Wirral Golf Classic.
