Award winning Wirral finest food

15th June 2010

Wirral food producers are celebrating success in The Fine Food Northwest Awards 2010. Bebington baker Ceri Newton, and Moreton-based tea company, Typhoo are the proud winners this year, which is the ‘Wirral Year of Food’.

The awards celebrate the finest food and drink producers in the North West. This year’s awards centred on the theme ‘Fabulous Food’ and embraced the diversity, energy, enthusiasm of companies excelling in their sector.

Ceri Newton, baker behind Bebington cafe Gorge-us, won the best cakes category with her delicious Victoria sponge.

“I am absolutely over the moon,” said Ceri, who opened her small shop in Bebington Village in 2007.

The shop has really taken off; building up a loyal customer base.

This year she also opened the Edwardian Tea Rooms in the picturesque Port Sunlight Village.

“I use all local ingredients and we have some very local customers. But this came as a real surprise.”
