A sight to behold at Wirral’s Kite Festival

The 8th annual kite festival attracted thousands of visitors for the two-day event at New Brighton dips, over the River Mersey.
Onlookers and kite enthusiasts from all over the world enjoyed flying cows, bears and sharks on 12th and 13th June.
Cllr David Elderton, Wirral Council’s cabinet member for culture, tourism and leisure heralded the event as a success. Some Kites were almost a mile long as they were joined together. Some families were from Holland, Italy and as far as Australia. It was two fantastic fun-filled days for everyone.”
There were also kite workshops for children, trade stands and food stalls at the event.

First time visitors, Wang Xiaoping and Tan Xinbo are two of China’s most renowned Kite Flyers, and flew Chinese butterflies, insects and dragon kites.
Prince Ida Bagus Ugrasena N and Princess R. A Helmi Ginanti from Bali’s royal family enjoyed it so much last year that they returned again this year and flew traditional gods, birds and dragon kites.
Other countries represented by fliers were Switzerland, Tasmania, Germany and Australia.
