MAJOR refurbishment work at Thornton Hall Hotel has seen the Italian Room Restaurant and Bar transformed into The Lawns.
The elegantly configured dining area has retained much of its original grandeur, and new Swarovski crystal chandeliers complete an impressive welcome for diners.
Manager James Wade-Smith told the News: “We’ve invested a lot in the furnishings and the chandeliers are a real feature as you walk into the room, they’re very striking.
“The colour scheme is cream and dark tones and then through the windows you can see over the lawns and out to the countryside.
“There is also a tremendous feeling of space in there.
“Nobody is cramped together, we want everybody who comes to have a unique experience.”
The Lawns bar has also been given a contemporary edge, with smart bar stools, low-level lighting and mirrors to create a sense of space and light.
But it’s not just the furnishings that have been given attention.
A new executive chef, Gordon Campbell, has been brought in and both the lunch and dinner menus have been redrawn.
All fresh and locally sourced, lunch offers include seared fillet of black bream and seared rib eye steak.
While dinner options include roast fillet of cod, seared bass, honey liquored duck breast and roast fillet of Welsh black beef, among other delights.
James said: “All of the produce is local.
“All the vegetables are from local farms, as well as all of the meat.
“We’re a family run business and have been in operation for many years.
“Over that time, we’ve been able to build contacts and maintain them.
“We’re lucky that the companies around us haven't expanded too much, and have kept to their roots.
“It’s very much family run, and all about customer experience.”
And so far, it seems, the changes to both menu and decor have been welcomed by residents and visitors alike.
James added: “We have lots of regular residents and visitors and they love the changes.
“We’ve had nothing but positive feedback from people, saying what a striking room it is and how elegant.”
