Gastropubs

Wirral has a terrific selection of gastropubs and bars to choose from. 

The Cowshed Restaurant, The Wheatsheaf, Raby

The Wheatsheaf Inn dates back to 1611, and is Wirral's oldest pub. With a distinctive thatched roof and black and white exterior, the Inn offers olde worlde charm alongside fine dining.  The adjoining Cowshed Restaurant offers pub lunches, and an a la carte evening menu. Head Chef, Emma Wombwell, was winner of the 2008 Chef Shine competition. 

The Wheatsheaf Inn makes an especially lovely summer outing, using the beautiful garden and bistro patio for al fresco eating and drinking, making the most of the picturesque hamlet setting. 

Irby Mill, Irby

Real hand-pulled ales and premier lagers lovingly cared for and served to perfection. Thoughtfully selected wines. Freshly prepared food using locally-sourced ingredients and cooked to order. Open fire and warm welcomes in winter, cool stone and a beer garden when the weather warms. What more could you want from a local pub?

New owner (November 2009) and long-experienced publican Andy Cockram offers all this in his authentically refurbished hostelry. A traditional country pub - like you’d expect, only better.

The Portrait House, Hoylake

The Portrait House is a former photographic studio, which has been converted in to a large restaurant. Set out like a sophisticated New-York style diner, the intimate ambience of makes The Portrait House an excellent choice for a romantic meal. The cuisine is an exquisite fusion of contemporary and classic cuisine using the best of seasonal, local produce wherever possible. The Collingwood

The Collingwood has a relaxed atmosphere in which to drink and dine. Open seven days a week, there is ample private parking and disabled access. The Collingwood Chefs take pride in preparing everything from scratch for their diners and change their menus regularly.
Serving morning coffee, lunches, and informal evening meals or you can dine style with the full À la Carte menu.
