Shopping
Wirral has a plethora of shopping opportunities and most Wirral residents rarely feel the need to shop outside the Peninsula.
When it comes to shopping for food, apart from the usual selection of national supermarket chains, there are many small, local shops selling high quality, local produce, such as the hugely popular Birkenhead Market. Established in 1835, the market attracts more than 6 million people a year and contains a vast fresh produce section,
including two nationally renowned fishmongers. It also has a Farmers Market/ Country Fayre, on the last Friday of every month.
Also a must for food shopping is the long-established Wirral Farmers Market in New Ferry, which is held on the second Saturday of the month and boasts a wide and varied selection of locally sourced produce.
For the bargain hunters amongst you and for and for those preferring the usual High Street selection, Birkenhead has ‘The Pyramids’ and ‘The Grange’ shopping centres. The Pyramids is Birkenhead’s own purpose built shopping complex with two floors of big name stores and speciality shops, complete with more than 700 car park spaces.
When it comes to speciality shopping Wirral has several options including Brimstage Hall Craft Centre. This small, rural courtyard has some very unusual and popular shops, one of which is the award winning Voirrey Embroidery.
The seaside towns of Hoylake and West Kirby offer an array of quirky, independent shops, distinct from the usual High Street stores. Hoylake has some lovely antique shops and is home to ‘Sargeants of Hoylake’ – makers of handmade chocolate. Neighbouring West Kirby has a selection of boutiques, antiques and soft furnishing shops which are well worth a visit.
Whatever your needs and desires, there is plenty of retail therapy waiting for you in Wirral.
