Art Galleries and Museums
Wirral is alive with history! - from Birkenhead Priory, the oldest standing building on Merseyside to The Wirral Museum, situated in one of the finest Georgian Squares in the country, Wirral has much to offer!
The Williamson Art Gallery is a purpose built Art Gallery, opened in December 1928 and houses the vast majority of Birkenhead's collection of artistic masterpieces.
No trip to Wirral is complete without a visit to Lady Lever Art Gallery, Port Sunlight - founded in 1922; it houses the magnificent personal collection of the first Lord Leverhulme in memory of his wife.
For something unusual why not visit Shore Road Pumping Station - The home of the ‘Giant Grasshopper’ engine, a working example of the giant steam pumps built in the 1870’s and used to clear water from the Mersey Railway Tunnel.
Birkenhead's wealth of heritage and culture is celebrated in the Birkenhead Heritage Trail and the Wirral Museums.
