Watersports
For lovers of water Wirral is currently home to 7 Sailing Clubs, which together with it's unique coastline provides a great base and numerous opportunities for watersports of all types. From Surfing,
Sailing and Canoeing to the more adventurous Jet-Skis and Powerboating - there is something for every water-baby!
Surrounded by water on three sides and with strong breezes from the Irish Sea, Wirral is a haven for "Windcatchers" and there is no more perfect place to windsurf than at West Kirby Marine Lake. Set on the very tip of the Peninsula with stunning views of the Welsh Hills and the Dee Estuary, this man-made saltwater lake is 52 acres in size, 5 foot deep and totally enclosed. This unusual and valuable combination makes it an exceptionally safe facility.
The Marine Lake at West Kirby is host to a number of sailing clubs, including West Kirby Sailing Club, who specialise in providing Royal Yachting Association courses in sailing, windsurfing and canoeing. They are also the home venue to one of the biggest team sailing events in the world, The Wilson Trophy.
On the Northern point of Wirral and with views over Liverpool's stunning waterfront is New Brighton Marine Lake. A sheltered venue, the lake is home to Elemental Outdoors, which is an activity and training facility providing tailored adventure and watersport programmes for all - from beginner to advance levels.
With just a taste of the opportunities available, why not see for yourself - dive in and have a go!
